Look inside STARZ · For parents & carers
From “I don’t know” to “I can have a go”.
You want your child to feel confident with money, speak up for an idea and cope when the first plan doesn’t work. Knowing where to start can be the difficult part.
STARZ connects short lessons, practical missions and feedback into a clear learning journey. Your child gets somewhere to practise. You get a clearer picture of what they can do.
A three-minute look inside. No registration needed for this sample.
A system for putting learning to work
The next step is already part of the plan.
School gives young people important foundations. Everyday life asks them to use those foundations: make a decision, explain a choice, manage a setback. STARZ gives those moments a structure, with age-appropriate challenges for learners aged 7–17.
- 01 · UNDERSTAND
One idea at a time
A short lesson or video introduces something useful, with an example they can recognise.
- 02 · CHECK
Make sense of it
A quick quiz helps them notice what they understand and what needs another look.
- 03 · APPLY
Try something real
A mission or assignment turns the idea into a plan, a prototype, a conversation or a pitch.
- 04 · IMPROVE
Explain what changed
Checks, feedback and reflection help them improve. Optional mentoring adds individual support.
A small taste of the learning
Could a £20 idea work?
Try the kind of decision a learner might meet. The numbers below are an illustrative example; the full Academy keeps the wider learning record.
The short lesson
A young person plans to sell handmade greeting cards. Ten cards cost £1.50 each to make. They hope to sell each one for £3.
Sales are the money coming in. Gross profit is sales minus the direct cost of making what was sold. There can still be other costs to pay.
An unsold card changes the result. So can packaging, a stall fee or payment charges.
A 30-second silent sample, with the explanation on screen. Watch, then check your thinking.
Now put it to work
The assignment: test the idea
- Sketch one card for a particular person or occasion.
- Ask two people what they would choose and why.
- Work out a price, then explain one change you would make.
“I thought people would choose a funny card. They wanted space for their own message, so I simplified the design. I’d test three cards before making ten.”
An illustrative reflection. The useful part is the learner’s reason for changing something.
Progress you can talk about
Something to show for the effort.
A pricing sheet, a finished piece of work or a better second attempt gives you more to talk about than a video watched. Points can mark milestones; completion certificates recognise finished learning.
The important question is what your child can now try, explain and improve. STARZ connects the Academy with books, challenge cards, the Innovation Hub and real-world opportunities as they are ready for them.
This sample does not award a certificate. Accreditation options are explained separately.

A practical next step
You don’t need to become their business teacher.
Start with a route that fits your child’s age, interests and confidence. STARZ gives the learning a sequence, room to practise and a reason to keep going.
